Litt spent på om Panasonic vil klare å tette luken til Pioneer med nye plasma skjermer. Spennende om også det vil komme plasmaer med bedre lysstyrke.

Ja, jeg er veldig spent på det. De bruker jo vanligvis å presentere de på CES. (men som regel har man fått rykter fra Japan på forhånd, noe som jeg selv ikke har klart å snappe opp)

Virker som Pioneer vil lansere langt tynnere plasma apparater i løpet av noen år.

Toshiba har akkurat gjennomført sin pressekonferanse på CES. Jeg antar de egentlig hadde en bolk med info om nye HD DVD spillere, men det hadde de fjernet helt.

The VIERA Plasma line features five distinct series (PZ850; PZ800; PZ85; PZ80; PX80), all of which feature new panels, improved contrast ratios, SD Memory Card slots, Game Mode, HDMI connections, increased luminous efficiency and VIERA Link™. The later allows the consumer to operate multiple VIERA Link equipped components with one remote. Game Mode is a new addition to Panasonic’s televison line that minimizes the time lag when displaying video games on a Panasonic flat panel.



While Panasonic’s focus for 2008 is on Full High Definition 1080p Plasma displays, there are two 720p High Definition Plasmas in the 2008 line-up. The VIERA 42-inch TH-42PX80 and VIERA 50-inch TH-50PX80. The VIERA Z80 series includes three screen sizes, all with 1080p resolution and introduces the new 46-inch display to the line -the TH-46PZ80. In addition the PZ80 series includes a 42-inch and a 50-inch model, all of which offer an improved Native contrast ratio o 20,000:1. The VIERA PZ85 series includes three screen sizes, all with 1080p resolution, the, 42-inch TH-42PZ85, the 46-inch TH-46PZ85 and the 50-inch TH-50PZ85. These full high definition Plasmas feature an improved native contrast ratio of 30,000:1. The Z85 series adds a PC input. In addition, the speakers are now hidden in the front.



The VIERA PZ800 series of 1080p Plasma televisions includes four screen sizes, the 42-inch TH-42PZ800, the 46-inch TH-46PZ800, the 50-inch TH-50PZ800 and the 58-inch TH-58PZ800. The PZ800 series meets the THX™ Certified Display specifications, signifying the highest standards for quality and performance. The PZ800 series also features an improved native contrast ratio of 30,000:1; four HDMI connections and a new one sheet of glass design concept.



Panasonic’s VIERA flagship line for 2008 –– the full 1080p Z850 series , features four models - the 46-inch TH-46PZ850, the 50-inch TH-50PZ850, the 58-inch TH-58PZ850 and the 65-inchTH-65PZ850. Panasonic’s top of the line models introduce IP enabled TV, a technology that provides access to online content, such as YouTube and Picasa, directly from the televison. In addition the Z850 series features a Pro Setting Menu, allowing the consumer to access professional calibration software; an improved native resolution contrast ratio of 30,000:1; RS-232C connection; four HDMI connections and a PC input. The PZ850 series further expands the capabilities of the SD Card feature by utilizing the AVCHD codec to display high definition video recorded on a HD camcorder equipped with the H.264 codec, Digital Cinema Color, a technology that allows for color reproduction which enables the VIERA displays to accurately reproduce the colors that are essential for movies.



The five LCD VIERA HD televisions are divided into two distinct series and introduces the new 37-inch screen size. Both series feature an improved Native contrast ratio of 1200:1 and a 10,000:1 Dynamic ratio, Game Mode; an SD memory Card slot; HDMI connections and VIERA Link. The 2008 LCD VIERA line debuts with two 720p models- the 26-inch TC-26LX85 and the 32-inch TC-32LX85. Both models include three HDMI connections that enable multi product connectivity via the VIERA Link connection. Also spotlighted in this series is Panasonic’s first 37-inch VIERA LCD televison, the TC-37LZ85, with 1080p full HD resolution, which in addition to the aforementioned features adds a PC input.



Panasonic’s Premium VIERA line of LCDs features two new models, the 32-inch TC-32LZ800 and the debut of the 37-inch TC-37LZ800. These two models add the following features – Motion Focus Technology; four HDMI connections that provide VIERA Link; a PC input; BBE VIVA Surround sound and the one sheet of glass appearance design.

(NYSE:MC), today introduced the DMP-BD50, Panasonic’s latest Blu-ray disc player - the ultimate playback source for high definition 1080p content. Blu-ray media offers a wide range of functions that foster the transition to HD - including 1080p image quality, lossless Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ and versatile Picture-in-Picture applications. The BD50 adds the new BD-Live function, which uses the internet to further enhance the consumer’s entertainment experience and employs VIERA Link,™ a technology that allows the consumer to operate VIERA Link equipped home theater components with a single remote.



BD-Live opens up a myriad of interactive possibilities for the consumer. In the future BD-Live will allow users to connect the DMP-BD50 to the internet to download such data as images and subtitles, and to join in multi-player interactive games that are linked to bonus movie content contained on Blu-ray discs.



For optimum image quality the DMP-BD50 features the PHL Reference Chroma processor and P4HD i/p conversion processor, which combine to create Uniphier®, a precise digital video processor that produces sharp, crisp, natural colors that are extremely faithful to the original movie. Uniphier reflects the advance encoding and authoring technologies developed by Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory.



The true to the original source images are complimented by an exceptionally pure, accurate sound achieved through Audio Re-master and integrated decoders for the lossless Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats. Furthermore, the DMP-BD50 can be combined with a 7.1 channel amplifier and speakers for full 7.1 channel surround sound.



Networking is an essential product of the DMP-BD50. With an SD Memory Card slot for easily transferring images from an HD camcorder or digital still camera via an SD Memory card. The consumer simply inserts the SD card into the BD50 and then can view the images on a large screen HD flat panel television with AVCHD format video images or JPEG stills in full 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Panasonic to Launch “THX Certified Display” Plasma HDTVs in Spring





Las Vegas, NV (January 6, 2008) – Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company unveiled its first THX Certified* Display series of 1080p full HD VIERA Plasma televisions today at the Consumer Electronics Show. The PZ800 series, consisting of the 42-inch class TH-42PZ800, the 46-inch class TH-46PZ800, the 50-inch class TH-50PZ800 and the 58-inch class TH-58PZ800, meets the THX Certified Display specifications, signifying the highest standards of performance and quality. The PZ800 series will be available in the Spring of 2008.



Leveraging its expertise in the cinema, post-production and consumer electronics markets, THX ensures that certified televisions will perform to rigorous standards outlined by the THX Certified Display program. THX certification ensures that high definition (HD) and standard definition content are presented with the correct color, luminance levels and video processing capabilities, regardless of the display technology. In addition, each THX Certified display will feature a proprietary video setting, THX Movie Mode, to recreate the cinema experience of movies on DVD, Blu-ray, HD-DVD and broadcast television in the home. THX Movie mode sets the display’s gamma, luminance, color temperature and other settings to match the levels found in the professional post-production studio where movies are produced.

THX works closely with display manufacturers from early design concepts to product rollout. Displays are sent to THX laboratories from the prototype stage, where they run through a series of THX performance tests, including front-of-screen testing and video signal processing analysis. These tests ensure that each display can present all HD and standard definition content to the maximum resolution with correct color and luminance levels.



In addition to the THX Certification, the 2008 PZ800 VIERA series of HD 1080p Plasmas features an improved native contrast ratio of 30,000:1; Game Mode; VIERA Link; a PC Input, four HDMI connections and an all-new-one-sheet- of-glass design concept.

Interessant. Den oppgitte kontrasten på plasmaene er jo knall bra. Det var mye med 4 serier. Tydelig at de også tar opp kampen med Pioneer med sine nye topp modeller. Skjønner at de kutter ut plasma i 37" markedsmessig, men synes det er litt dumt. 37" er en passelig størrelse for mange, og nå kan de ikke velge plasma lengre. Kontrasten til LCDene blir jo ganske morsom i dette selskapet. Håper de også gjøre noe med refleksjoner og retention problemene.

Pioneer Corporation today unveils concepts for future display technologies under the code name “Project KURO.” After a year in which Pioneer proved that its award-winning plasma technology is leagues above the rest of the HDTV industry in picture quality, Pioneer engineers today will preview future Project KURO concepts showing extreme contrast and advanced design that will further the idea that plasma is the best high-definition television technology and that the future is black and thin.

The extreme contrast concept will challenge the contrast ratio debate by producing the industry’s first plasma that is absolute black with no measurable light emitting from the television. At the same time, Pioneer is previewing an advanced design concept that is the world’s thinnest 50-inch display at only nine millimeters (mm) thin. It seems that Pioneer is only improving on its own achievements in picture quality and design, but Pioneer’s true engineering passion is to deliver an emotional entertainment experience through the development of the highest picture quality.

“For more than a year, Project KURO has been a brand mantra within Pioneer that represents our commitment to deliver the most passionate and emotional entertainment experience possible,” said Russ Johnston, executive vice president of marketing and product planning for the Home Entertainment and Business Solutions Group at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “The KURO technology concepts demonstrate how we are continuing to challenge the industry and stay above the commoditized flat panel television market – by literally ending the conversation about contrast ratio, a debate that has been in existence since television was first introduced, and creating a flat panel display so thin it becomes a canvas for entertainment.”

To put this into perspective, consumers need to understand the contrast ratio debate. Contrast ratio is defined as the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black). While manufacturers all measure this differently, they agree that a high contrast ratio is desirable to recreate ideal picture quality. In televisions, the truer the black, the more accurate the color.

Black encompasses the entire color spectrum and is produced in the absence of light. By nature, televisions produce luminance (light) and this dilutes black and color. That is why it is so important that Pioneer can achieve absolute black in the Project KURO extreme contrast concept. The display is so black that even when it is on with no image displayed, the television is invisible when you walk into a completely dark room. It has a contrast ratio that is literally beyond measurement, rendering the debate of contrast ratio irrelevant and providing the consumer a rich picture filled with vibrant penetrating color.

“Thanks to the self emitting principle of plasma, we were able to crack the code on plasma luminance. Pioneer technology has advanced to the point where we have achieved virtually zero idling luminance in more than six million cells, previously thought to be impossible. The result is, in essence, absolute black with no measurable light coming from the television. For consumers, this creates the experience that the image is floating in space, with a picture that has exceptional detail and vivid color. Ultimately, our goal is focused on bringing to market a new KURO that unifies the extreme contrast and advanced design concepts to transcend anything currently possible in home entertainment. We feel that this will not only surpass our previous best, it will completely change the playing field.” said Yoichi Sato, senior executive officer and chief technology executive at Pioneer Cooperation.

Pioneer’s concept for the world’s thinnest 50-inch flat panel display is also part of Pioneer’s engineering passion. At only nine millimeters (mm) thin, this groundbreaking Project KURO technology results in a picture that appears to be floating on a wall, creating an experience for consumers where the television becomes simply a canvas for great entertainment. In addition, its extremely light weight (18.6kg/ 41lbs) allows the television to be easily wall mounted, contributing handsomely to interior décor without distracting—providing a spectacular setting for watching films.

These fully-operational concept televisions will not be commercially-available in 2008.

P.H.A.T – Pioneer Hybrid Amplifier technology
With this new line, Pioneer is incorporating its newly developed Pioneer Hybrid Amplifier Technology (P.H.A.T.) power module that improves fundamental audio to a more powerful and accurate performance designed to exceed the capabilities of current comparably priced A/V receivers in the market. Featured in the VSX-518-K, VSX-818V-K, VSX-918V-K A/V receivers, P.H.A.T amplifiers are painstakingly engineered with hand-selected parts and critical listening sound tuning to ensure the entire range of audio from music and soundtracks is delivered.

In addition, the new models will benefit from temperature compensation technology that prevents temperature fluctuations from affecting output that can distort surround sound performance. In response, Pioneer’s proprietary Sound Retriever DSP technology is incorporated in all four models. The function works by “filling in” and compensating for the audio data removed from the compressed files (WMA, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC) for music playback that is near CD quality.
? Front Stage Surround Advance – Users limited in space can enjoy the full benefits of surround sound with all five speakers at the front of a room. By taking advantage of the receivers’ DSP technology, reconfiguring all five audio channels to the front right and left speakers is simple.
? Phase Control Bass Management – To ensure a low frequency (bass) sound source arrives at the listener’s ear position in sync with remaining multi-channel audio signals, Phase Control Management technology applies a bass management system that maintains soundtrack synchronization by effectively compensating for the phase lag inherent in 5.1 surround sound systems.

? Auto Level Control - Available in all four models, this brand new feature equalizes volume levels between portable audio tracks (i.e. MP3 player), connected sources as well as television channels and commercials. Analog sources connected to Pioneer’s receivers will maintain consistent sound performance eliminating the need for a user to constantly reach for their remote control and adjust the volume from various content and sources.
? Multi-Zone Audio – With the VSX-1018TXH-K, individuals in two separate rooms can enjoy audio from connected devices through the receiver. For example, while one user is viewing a movie in surround sound the main listening area, a second zone environment can enjoy a music CD, XM® and/or Sirius® satellite radio, iPod as well as any other analog source connected to the receiver. Pioneer’s top three models offer robust high definition connectivity options for nearly every home theater component. The VSX-918V-K and VSX-1018TXH-K models take complete advantage of HDMI connectivity with a full feature set including, HDMI A/V repeaters to output compressed 5.1, stereo as well as Linear PCM (LPCM) high resolution audio for ultimate surround sound when viewing HD optical discs. Once connected, complete access and control of both SIRIUS and XM devices are easy with the receiver’s remote control and full on-screen display (OSD) capability.

Listeners can relax and enjoy the crystal-clear programming from each provider. The top three Pioneer A/V receivers also provide immediate "plug and play" enjoyment of iPod® music content via a front panel digital USB port. This new BD player boasts a stylish design with unbeatable sound and picture quality that takes Blu-ray Disc interactivity to a new dimension.

Philips' BDP7200 touts stunning Full HD 1080p images - the pinnacle of today's high-def visuals. Rich surround sound is heightened with multi-channel audio decoding and digital audio optical outputs. Older DVD libraries will look better than ever as the BD player upscales them to 1080p - a major attraction to consumers who, as they migrate to HDTV sets, find that standard DVDs do not offer the HD content they expect.

Enriching the picture further, Deep Color™ creates vivid images with more than a billion colors1 and eliminates on-screen color banding. The BDP7200 also supports 1080p at native 24 frames per second (fps)2 cinematic resolution input via HDMI, which is the same format used in movies.

The BDP7200 supports technology known as BD-Java, which makes even more sophisticated interactive features possible. It boasts Picture in Picture (PiP), graphical enhancements and multi-languages for on-screen display. Multi-layered displays enable users to interact with on-disc content - such as pop-up menus, graphics, director's commentary and bonus material - even as the main movie is playing.

Further enhancing the player's simplicity, Philips EasyLink™3 allows easy control of connected devices via HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC1) function with one remote. One button does it all - the TV and A/V components communicate via the same HDMI cables that deliver audio and high-def video.

The BDP7200 Blu-ray Disc player will be available in April 2008.
